Single Female Professionals Seek Homes

According to the National Association of Realtors, last year single women purchased more than twice as many homes as single men bought.  In fact, single women bought one of every five homes sold, or 1.5 million homes.

This is proof that women have a changing role in the family.  Women are now realizing the American Dream!

A recent article in USA Today points out that there are many demographic reasons for this change, but the biggest one seems to be a change in point of view.  Women now feel like they can acquire their own homes instead of waiting for Mr. Right to buy them one.

With interest rates at an all-time low and prices of homes down from a couple of years ago, women see this as an opportunity to lock into a home.  They feel that when the time comes to merge homes with a partner, they can either sell their home or use it as an investment.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies say twice as many unmarried women are buying homes than single men.  Also, single women make up more than one-third of the growth in real estate ownership since 1994.  I personally have purchased 2 homes in this time span.  I felt that the best place to put my money was in a home where I could live close to friends and family.  My second home in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore was every woman’s dream home.  Large closets, gourmet kitchen and bath, and perfect for entertaining!  Not to mention it’s proximity to the Canton Square and waterfront!

Record numbers of single women are buying homes.  If you’re a single woman who wants to buy a house, the good news is the market is wide open for you!
